Surge Average Heart Rate

I am curious as to how Surge calculates your Average Heart Rate during an exercise or workout.  I just finish a 45-minute workout, 5-minutes on the elliptical to warm up (heart rate averaged in the 150s), followed by 40-minutes on the Bowflex machine (low point around 75 for short durations, high point around 125, also short durations, looked like an average around 95).  The workout stats gave me a total workout average of 103.  Might you know how the average is calculated?

I believe it's just an average of all the heart rates collected from the start to the finish of the workout. The average of 103 sounds reasonable to me, as it's taking a 5-minute period at 150 against a period of 40 (8 times as long) that you said was about 95bpm. So 103 sounds about right.

WavyDavey, is that your handle because of your hair, or were you in the Navy?  I also see that you noted Northern California; where?  As you can tell from my handle, I am a long-time 49er fan, and live in the Bay Area.  Anyway, your analysis is exactly where I cam out, but was wondering if FitBit actually had a formula, like a weighted average for your heart rate during a certain number of minutes/seconds.  If you are climbing a hill, that heart rate can move dramatically in just a minute, so I was curious about the tick points (e.g. seconds/minutes).  Not a major issue, just curious, and FitBit has to be using some kind of calculation to give you an average number, and I was looking for that exact calculation.
