Is it possible to develop clockfaces or animations on my own for the fitbit surge? If so, how would I go about this? I understand exact steps may not be possible, but general guidelines would be very helpful.

That's what I am afraid of. Thank you for the reply. Just hard to accept there's ways to develop apps but not clock face styles. I hope fitbit is listening and adds small features such as this with updates. It gives variation to the asthetics of the product and gives more "happy/satisfied" utility value for surge/fitbit purchase.

There have been a lot more than two requests for now clock faces and changes to the existing. Most popular are less wasted space, displaying of seconds, displaying of day of the week, displaying of year. displaying of timezone, multi-timezone, etc. Many have been closed as duplicates including the orignal request the rest have simply seemed to have gone ignored.
I am personally fine with them focusing on getting the unit working correctly, but they haven't made much progress on that in a long time either. At least improved clock faces might make the unit more useful as the activity tracking certainly isn't.

No, there's no way to develop apps either.
