Hi so i just brought my surge around 2 days ago and i have a few concerns.
So! i'm 6ft 1, approx 97.6kg around 29% Body fat. according to the surge yesterday i had a resting heart rate of approx 58 Bpm and spent approx 2 hrs 7 min in the fat burning zone (by walking though not enough to perspire).
in total i walked 10.28 miles (this is a normal walk for me). burnt a total of 4615 kcal (this includes the 2000 kcal BMR).
According to my surge my heart rate reached a maximum of 134Bpm yesterday. given that i understand that the number of Kcal burnt is determined by the surges HR monitor as well as the input of my phyiscal characteristics i'm a bit concerned that this may be grossly overestimating both my HR and my Kcal burnt.
i've searched and found similiar issues raised on these boards but the majority of them are fairly old and so i'm wondering were those issues solved? how accurate are these readings? according to this if i hit a 134bpm on a gentle walk i shudder to think what the surge will record when i do an actual run.
any and all advice/help would be very appreciated thank you

See this post for my own observations on the kcal adjustments of fitbit. I've found out that fitbit is actually pretty **ahem** precise about it.

Personally, I don't think 138bpm is particularly high. It depends upon elevation and pace etc. If you look at your fitbit dashboard and look at the walk you did (fitbit will record this automatically even if you didn't tell it you were actually going for a walk) you can see what your average bpm was at different stages of the walk.
For myself, if I walk at a pace of about 6,4km on a treadmill I can have a bpm of about 120 perhaps. And that's on a completely flat walk at an even pace. I don't think this is particularly high. My resting bmp according to fitbit is 60 (to my understanding fitbit calculates the average between your sleeping heart rate and your daily heart rate when you're at rest). Don't forget, at6ft1 and 97kg, bf 29% you're not small. So this could also increase your heart rate as your heart has to work hard to move the weight around. I'm 6ft4 and 96kg btw. No idea what my BF is, but I'm guessing around 17%.
I don't think you'll see a massive increase in bpm if you run. Depends upon the pace and elevation of course. I normally see an increase of about 20 - 30bpm when I break into a light run. I'm not the fittest person when it comes to cardiovascular at all, but I'm happy with the results. Personally I don't think it's anything to worry about, but if you are concerned get yourself to your doc who, I'm sure, will be able to tell you you have nothing to worry about.
Keep at it and you'll see a steady decrease in your bpm over time. I bought the blaze specifically for the fitness calculator it provides and I have average to good fitness according to my tracker, and it has improved slowly with weightloss and cardio a few times a week. Don't think too much about where you are now, but where you will be if you continue 🙂
