Why does my Surge overheat and switch itself off in the sun? When it cools down it has stuck at the time and settings it has when it switched off and has to re-synch with phone to catch up again and re-set the time etc.

That's to prevent heat damage to the tracker and your arm. I used to put a towel over it if I was sitting in the direct sun for any length of time such as at a sports event.

How hot is the air. When the unit gets to hot, it shuts down to protect its electronics.

This is not uncommon in the desert .
