Surge incorrect resding

This morning I walked 3.5 miles on the treadmill at 3.5 pace then spent several hours of errands. My surge only read 2.5 miles. I also wore my pedometer which I know is correct. It reads 4.3 miles and 11620 steps. My surge only reads 8572 steps, I've set the stride down to 15 and that doesn't make a difference. I've had this problem ever since I got my surge last week and am about to send it back.

Hello @SunsetRunner and welcome to the Community!

When you where on the treadmill where you on activity record mode or where you using the Surge normally?

This could make a difference when tracking over your steps. With the Treadmill there are a couple of factors to take into account with the tracker.

As the Surge is capable of tracking forward movements as well as body movements this is taken into account to measure the steps. In the treadmill however you don't move forward. Also the Surge needs arm movements to be precise so placing the hands on the bars can also affect accuracy. This is true for all of the wrist monitors.  I invite you to read this thread discussing treadmill accuracy.

Another factor to take into account is that on the Treadmill the distance is estimated by calculating the number of steps and multiplying them with your stride length. So you need to make sure the stride length is properly set. It is calculated by your height by default but you can manually set it if you have measured or if you would like to.

Let me know if this helps. See you soon!

I use it in normal surge mode. I've been experimenting with stride length. This morning I set it to 40 (I'm only 5'2" )and the mileage was right on compared to the treadmill reading, however the step count was over 2000 less than what it should have been. It's really frustrating.
