Surge logging steps while charging

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Put my surge on charge last night and woke this morning to find it had logged 15K steps and 14K distance all while sitting still on the table charging. I have reset the surge but the bad data still persists. Any idea how to get rid of the bad steps? The battery does seem to have less life... hardly lasts a day with maybe a 50min use of GPS... is it perhaps breaking?

Regards

Hi, @dogenzenji, Fitbits are designed not to log steps while charging, so I think it was not actually charging all the time you think it was -- that could explain the problem with battery life.  The charging contacts may need to be cleaned.  Here is a help article which has some tips for a battery that won't charge.

If your Fitbit was near a vibration source (such as a table fan, humidifier, air conditioner, etc.) it can register many thousands of false steps while not moving at all.  Could this be what happened in your case?

To delete this false data you will need to check your logs to see when these steps were counted, and then log "driving" for the same time period.  Instructions here .  Be sure to find the built in "driving" activity and not create a custom activity, and also check the time/date carefully.

Hi Julia

That would explain it!
I live in Menorca which is rather hot right now. I have a small rotating desktop fan running overnight to keep the dogs cool and it is right next to where I charge the fitbit. Makes sense. I will give it a clean as well as per instructions. Thanks for the help.
