Surge not accurately recording walking

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Brand new Surge (and user).

Did 53 minutes of brisk walking on treadmill.  Surge recorded 53 miintues of Active Minutes, but only .5 miles (when it was actually bit over 2.0) and only 1000 (ish) steps.

Only my 3rd day with this, and the other 2 days I walked on the treadmill recorded accurately.

I tried to manually log exercise to make up the difference but that seemed to muck things up and changed some of the stats that were in there (Active Minutes now show 0).

Anyone have any suggested troubleshooting or configuration settings to check?

Thanks in advance.

As I have bee told in this tread, the distance is measured with the GPS. And you are actually not moving you out of the place. Well well, that what just comes up.

Thanks for the reply - maybe I am misunderstanding how this works, I thought the GPS use was optional by specifically tapping to "track exercise".  I didnt want to wear down battery unnecessarily since I was walking on a treadmill instead of outside.

I've had it for a few days and have only done exercise on the treadmill (walking) other than normal steps as part of my daily life.  For the first few days it seems to have recorded the treadmill walking accurately.

Do I have it wrong?  Shouldnt it accurately count my steps even if I am walking on a treadmill?  Steps are steps, right?

Oh yes I believe that, but not the distance if you use the exercise/walk possibility.

Hey @rip59, it is great to see you around the Community! Robot Very Happy Remember that the GPS is not necessary if you are exercising on the treadmill since you remain on the same place, as @dingos8mybaby mentioned, that is why the distance may be affected and you can get a lower distance that if you were actually walking in an open place. Now regarding your other question, yes, you can use treadmill run, but remember that as long as you are on the same place there is no need to use the GPS.

Greetings. When I bike Imwas unable to locate the bike icon under  the “exercise” tab. I believe that I’ve fixed that issue as a “bike”option is now available.

new issue: the GPS accurately records my path. It is displayed on a map. However, it displays the distance as 1.5 miles when my distance was closer to 12-14 miles.

Please help me correct. I want/need credit for each inch (ha).
