I've followed the instructions, read some posts here, turned my mobile off many times and nothing.
Always the same message: unsuccessful pairing.
Seriously thought that buying the top of the range Fitbit would be stress free and straightforward.
Not.

Hello @Running-fit,

Welcome to the community!

If you're trying to pair your Surge through your phone's standard bluetooth settings, don't.  Just install the Fitbit App, go to your account, and then add new tracker and follow the instructions from there.

The Fitbit App will manage the bluetooth settings on your behalf.

I hope this helps.

Just don't get used to it.  My Surge frequently fails to connect and, over time, it will become harder and harder to sync (this morning, alone, it took seven attempts of cycling my iPhone 6S and Surge before the device would pair (and, yes, I use the Fitbit app and have always done so)).

I really have never known a more frustrating device!

And to really 'put the icing on the cake': Yesterday I noted that the iPhone was syncing with the Surge and had recorded all the Surge's stats.  This morning, after having struggled with trying to get it to sync, I saw that the Fitbit app on the iPhone had dumped the last three days' worth of information (and this is not the first time this has happened, either).

I'm going overseas soon so am waiting until then to finally get rid of this Fitbit device. Buying the Surge is turning out to be one of the least-impressive decisions that I have made.

@SunsetRunner,

For whatever it's worth, the steps show up on your profile over the last three days.  This means that you still got credit for all the steps, they're just not displayed by the Fitbit App on your phone.  Yes, the latter should work, but at least you need not worry about whether or not you've lost those steps.

Oh no! That sounds really bad.
This is my very first Fitbit and I decided to go for the top of the range, to avoid any headaches.
But not syncing with the mobile... That's basic stuff!!
Thanks for your feedback.
I hope the Fitbit people read your comments too.
Good luck!

Hey @Running-fit, It's nice to see that @PureEvil helped you to set up your Surge tracker!  @SunsetRunner, thank you for your time on this. I'd like to know if you already tried to set up your tracker as a new device.  You don't need to remove the tracker from your accout.  Since you mentioned you're  mentioning you have an iOS device, these steps may help:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account tab.
  2. Tap Set Up a Device.
  3. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue.

Keep me posted!
