delete the device from the app and try again. Same thing. 8 times now. Always get to that point and get one of those error codes. Then the Fitbit goes back to the configuration screen and the app keeps searching to pair until I delete the device from the app and start over

This is a known issue with the iOS app that is being worked on. A workaround is to set it up with a Windows 10 machine or an Android phone. After that you should be able to sync to your phone.

So basically, if I don't own an android or windows 10, I got a friggin paperweight?
You'd think that the manufacturer would give you a warning or offer a buyback or something.

So, after much frustration, two calls to the tech line and this forum,... I went to a friends to use their computer and download the app on it. Followed through with everything and now my surge is working.
irritating and frustrating, but it works

I had the same issue with my Surge and my S8 droid. I was so **ahem** frustrated. Looked into the issue and even called Fitbit who said along with all my internet searches that Fitbit does not synch with the S8 and that FB is working on this issue. I just kept trying and how surprised was i when a day later my FB went crazy vibrating with all my text messages and calls. Not sure what happened as everything still says FB doesn' work with S8 but my persistence paid off and it eventually worked. Good luck.

Unfortunately, I wasn't as lucky. Got the Win10 app, deleted the Surge, the app found the replacement device but when I told it to update, it started and then promptly failed saying, "Could not complete your Fitbit Surge update." I've misplaced the WiFi dongle so I had it connected to the Win10 machine with the USB cable. I give up and will have to find some other tracker now for exercising. Good luck to the rest of you Surge folks.
