My Fitbit Surge is not recording treadmill steps accurately.  Is anyone else having this issue?

Hello @Bob0431 are you holding on to the hand rails?

You might have noticed that ive moved tour post about the Surge with a  treadmill, from the post about tge Charge 2 and audio stats while riding a bicycle.

Great help @Rich_Laue! 😉 Nice to see you here @Bob0431! Fitbit trackers have an accelerometer to track your movement. So, holding the hand rails may impact your step count. However, please double check if your placement settings are correct.

  • The dominant wrist setting decreases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any over counting of steps when your body is not moving.
  • The non-dominant wrist setting increases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any under counting of steps. Non-dominant is the default.

Tracker location helps orient the screen correctly in addition to adjusting the sensitivity of step detection. To change your settings, in the Fitbit app go to Account tab and choose your tracker at the top of the screen. Or in the Online Dashboard, go to Fitbit.com/settings/device.

I hope this helps, keep me posted! 😉

Interesting response re treadmill. However, I find when I use my snowblower and hold on to the grips with both hands, the steps readings are more accurate. Perhaps, vibration of the snowblowing machine has an impact. Thoughts?

Yes. I do about five miles on the treadmill and my Fitbit Surge says something like sixty five miles.  I never had a problem with my Fitbit charge.  Any solution?
