Weird sleep readings

Back in December my Fitbit Surge went from giving me reasonable sleep readings (e.g. 7 hours 38 mins sleep) with maybe a few restless readings to giving me crazy sleep readings (4 hours 3 mins sleep plus 3hours 20 mins restless!). There's no way that I suddenly started exercising in my sleep so I took my band in on warranty and got it replaced. However I am still getting the same stupid readings. Please can someone tell me why? Has the app been updated or have I just received another dud watch as a replacement to my old one?

Hey guys @Wanderlusterer@dnattrass, @SunsetRunner, @J-flexSmiley LOL Let me tell you, that every time your tracker indicates that you are moving so much that restful sleep would not be possible, your sleep graph will indicate that you were awake. Also, during sleep mode, when your body is completely at rest and unmoving, your Fitbit tracker records that you are asleep and the time it takes for you to actually fall asleep is not incorporated into this calculation. If you don't move all night it is possible to get 100% sleep efficiency even if it takes you 20 minutes to fall asleep.

However, @J-flex, I'll be happy to help you and find the issue with your sleep tracking, to do it, could you share an screenshot of the issue and also reply with as many details of the issue you are experiencing as possible.

@Wanderlusterer Thanks for sharing, I'm happy to see you here. Also, thanks to you to @SunsetRunner that was a great tip, you helped @dnattrass.

@dnattrass I'm so happy to hear that you are back on track now. Smiley LOL Let me share some info about Sensitive Mode: The sensitive setting will cause your tracker to record nearly all movements as time spent awake. This setting may be helpful for users with sleep disorders, or those who wear their tracker somewhere other than the wrist while asleep.

Let me know if you have any other question, I'll be around! Smiley Wink

Very welcome to the Community @dnattrass! Let me tell you, that is very weird. However, I recommend Restart your Tracker and after go to your Dashboard and change the Sleep Tracking to "Normal". Finally, set up your tracker as a new Fitbit device.

Let me know how it goes!

@dnattrass - I've always had these issues with my surge. I've just learned to accept it for what it is.

I had accidently turned the sleep mode onto sensitive! I have no idea how I did this but now I've set it back to normal it's back to working fine again. Thank you!

Hiya

@TarinFitbit

'Let me share some info about Sensitive Mode: The sensitive setting will cause your tracker to record nearly all movements as time spent awake.'

I dont see how the sensitive setting will record nearly all movements as being awake, for example pretty much every night i have at least 15 light blue bars indicating restlessness in my sleep, i occassionally wake once or twice and this shows up accurately as a pink bar. I may try the normal mode to see how it fares, all i can say is i am certainly not refreshed when i wake up!!! Woman Sad

Also where else can a tracker be worn whilst asleep to get accurate readings????

Hey @Wanderlusterer thanks for getting back to me! Fitbit use the following equation to calculate your sleep efficiency: 100 * time asleep / (time asleep + time restless + time awoken during sleep). I found that information on this article: "What should I know about sleep tracking?" and also, says that "The normal setting on your Sleep Tracking counts significant movements as being awake (such as rolling over) and is appropriate for most users". Please take a look on that article, you'll find a lot of info to improve your Zzzz Smiley LOL. In addition you can manually log your sleep by following the instructions here: "How do I manage my sleep logs with the Fitbit app?".

I really hope that info helps you, test your tracker and let me know if you still have issues with your tracker. I'll be around! Smiley Wink
