surge stair count gone mental today.

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

had my surge for 3 weeks now and the stair count had been spot on every day so far. But in the last 6 hours it has gone mental, telling me I've gone up 41 flights of stairs when I haven't been up 1 flight. I'm doing the same thing I do most days at work, working in a factory on a level floor.

is my surge just having a bad day or is something wrong with it?

just tried a reset and still getting the same problem.

A warm welcome to out Fitbit Community family @Nightwish Good to know that you got the Fitbit Surge. Congrats! About that number of floors I would like to know the following: Do you drive on your way to your work? Do you work next to the CA? This information will help to determine what happened to your tracker. Smiley Embarassed

Your tracker detects floors using an altimeter, which is a sensor that calculates altitude based on atmospheric pressure. Though your tracker is designed to look for pressure changes based on elevation gains, pressure changes due to other causes, such as a gust of wind, a weather change, or opening a door, CA, place your tracker near to window's car when driving also; can occasionally cause your tracker to register an extra floor or two.

Why dont' we check together at what time they were tracked. Please open the Fitbit.com Dashboard in a computer or in your phone browser. Click on Log > Activities > Change the view to Floors and choose the date. You will get the time line of day with the information regarding floors, including time.

How to see floors in the Dashboard PC.PNG

Please note that when your Surge uses both the accelerometer and the altimeter to track floors. Algorithms interpret the raw data into a floor, and it registers a floor when it detects continuous motion combined with an elevation gain of about 10 feet. So, your thoughts about the lift causing more floors is feasible.

I'll be waiting for your response! Woman Happy

Hi, @Nightwish, do you by any chance live in the UK?  If so, you will know that we are having a major storm, and that will be the most likely reason for your Surge floor count going mental.  Because of the way the altimeter works major weather events will cause soaring floor counts.  If that is the reason, then once the storm has passed through everything should be back to normal.

Hello and thank you for your reply. I usually cycle to work but today I walked. I did walk up 2-3 small hills. I've no idea what the CA is you talk about. Air pressure/weather may be the cause as its very windy today in the UK.

Hi, @Nightwish, as you have confirmed you live in the UK (as I suspected) that is definitely the cause of your floor count issues today.  As I mentioned, all should be back to normal once the storm blows through.  Unfortunately those unearned floors (and any badges) will stay on your record, as there is no way to delete false badges.

Hey @Nightwish, hope you're doing great! Wow, thanks a lot @Julia_G, that detail really changes everything! Cat Happy

Taking in count how is the weather during these days, you can wait a couple of days and compare your Fitbit once the weather changes. I'd appreciate you let us know how it works in a couple of weeks. Hope you don't have too many inconvenience with that storm!

Have a good one! Smiley Happy
