I asked my question to the Twitter team and wasn't able to get a good response. No-one seems to know what kind of data will be available in API 2.0, or what the "Strava partnership" actually means!
In the mean time I've cancelled my Surge pre-order. I'll happy reinstate that order if proper integration (or any kind of run data is made available to Runkeeper/Strava/Tapiriik though their API) is planned for the near future.
What's more frustrating is that theres finally a tracker that does everything I want:
- Track my runs with GPS
- Measure HR
- Track my day-to-day steps
- Track my sleep
But it's the only one that is unable to sync my run data with anything else! Gah!

@antikewl Thanks for your questions! I've gone ahead and moved your post to the Third-Party Integrations forum to give it greater visibility in the community.
I understand you're holding off on purchasing Surge until you have a bit more clarity on what the future holds--hopefully the information below will help.
The Strava integration will enable you to sync Fitbit workouts to Strava. If you're using your Surge, heart rate and GPS-based data – including routes, distance and pace – will sync to Strava. You'll also be able to sync Strava workouts to Fitbit for a complete view of your fitness.
Fitbit OAuth 2.0 will expand our current API to make all day heart rate and GPS data available via the new endpoints.
@antikewl you are right, it doesn't have 24x7 HR monitoring, but i'm not sure it makes a big difference for the average person. See also this discussion for some interesting points on Surge vs Vivoactive https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Surge/Convince-me-not-to-buy-the-Garmin-Vicoactive/m-p/624683

Best AnswerHi Allison,
Will this integration work with the Charge HR as well? I'm using Strava iPhone app with cadence/speed sensor and until now with a BLE heart rate band. It would be great to replace the heart rate band with my Charge HR. Or as an alternative logging a bike ride in the fitbit app with also heart rate (from Charge HR) and speed and cadence (from BLE sensor) reading during the ride and sync to Strava afterwards...

Best AnswerThanks for this info @zapleahy. Are you able to provide an estimated date for the Fitbit/Strava 2 way integration to be available?
I have Strava auto-synced to Garmin Connect, and was using the 3rd party FitDataSync tool to get my running activities into Fitbit, but for the last week or so; it keeps failing to sync. Do you anything about this?
Thanks again,
Matt
Best AnswerWhen exactly is this happening?
The main reason I got Fitbit Surge was exactly to keep track of my steps, sleep, food, etc AND integrating it with Strava!
It has been a long time since both CEO's (Strava and Fitbit) publicly announced integration, yet, nothing happening here.
Come on folks, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER PLEASE!
to moderators
its very frustrating when people ask questions and no one seems to get a response.
the strava integration was one of the main reasons we are purchased the surge over the garmin or other trackers.
any rough time scales would be appreciated.
Best AnswerExactly the way I feel. I Started using a Body Media fitness tracker 4 years ago. It was big, bulky, uncomfortable and did not measure HR. However, it was extremely accurate. I then moved to HR training using a strapless MIO-ALPH HR watch. It was very accurate and interfaced flawlessly with Runkeeper. I could chart and graph all my HR activity during every moment of every activity. However, it was not an activity tracker.
When the Surge came out I THOUGHT, "Finally" someone has combined a strapless HR monitor with an activity tracker. However, my Charge will not disply HR on my Runkeeper App. (Bummer) the Charge looks great, is easy to use, and is very comfortable to wear during workouts. But if you want to use it with Runkeeper, Strava, etc. you dont want a Fitbit. I have over 600 activities tracked through Runkeeper and I am not interested in moving everything to the Fitbit App that is not nearly as good as the Runkeeper App.
