Activity descriptions from MapMyFitness

when I track my activity in MapMyFitness (i.e.Yoga or Abs), when it syncs with Fitbit, the description in Fitbit says Calisthenics (pushups, sit-ups) instead of what was listed in MapMyFitness.  Is there any way to get the proper activity description in Fitbit?

Also, is there a way to update or sync detailed descriptions from MapMyFitness to Fitbit, particularly if you are doing a workout like P90X.  To be able to track in activities that I did a P90X workout for Chest & Back or Ab Ripper.

You'll likely need to create custom activities in Fitbit, then manually add those activities with your data and then delete the synced activity. Since Fitbit hasn't allowed the editing of activities for 9+ months that's the only way to fix synced activities.

Thanks for the suggestion!  The best solution would be for Fitbit to let us edit activities, but I guess we'll have to do work-arounds until they do 🙂

Fitbit allowed activities to be edited 9+ months ago and removed the functionality with no warning or explanation. It's been "considering" restoration of the functionality for ~8 months. I gave up hope.

just found out that if I create an activity record and then go to the dashboard on a computer, I can edit the "Workout" activity to be a specific activity type.  (I would have to create a different activity for each of the P90X workout DVDs).  The only gotcha is that you can only edit it once.  if you make a mistake, that's it 😕

How did you get your MapMyFitness data to sync to Fitbit?  Thanks!

Hi @Leia44z, its been a while since I did this, but I think I did it through the MyFitnessPal app.  I use MyFitnessPal because entering calorie intake and nutritional breakdown in MyFitnessPal is much better than Fitbit.  So I went into MyFitnessPal and linked it with my Fitbit account.  At the same time, I also linked MyFitnessPal with MapMyFitness.  So now when I do a workout in MapMyFitness, it syncs with MyFitnessPal, so I see my calories burned there, and then MyFitnessPal syncs with Fitbit and I see the activity and calories burned in there as well.  In Fitbit, you will see the activity come up as Elliptical (MyFitnessPal).

Works pretty seamless...
