Calorie differences between Fitbit and MFP

My fitbit dashboard says I've eaten 597 out of 1500 calories and that I have 903 calories left for today.

MFP says I've eaten 597 out of 1500 calories and that I have 1359 calories left for the day since I earned 456 from exercise.

All these numbers make sense looking at fitbit and MFP individually.  However, why doesn't the fitbit and MFP match for calories left for the day?  Isn't this data that is supposed to sync?

I've been reading through these boards for hours tonight, trying to figure this out.  I've disconnected and reconnected both MFP and fitbit, and setup the custom calories in fitbit.  I just can't figure it out.  What am I missing?

I think it's because MFP is expecting you to eat back your exercise calories and FItbit doesn't.  I started 4 days ago and have eaten back some of my calories.  MFP is showing me at a small deficit for those 4 days, but Fitbit is showing that I went over my calorie limit on each day. It's sort of disturbing.
