MFP logged 12,375 steps for 456 calories from my Fitbit Surge. Of those 12,375 steps, 9,355 were for running a 5k. I entered my 5k on the new feed and MFP gave me another 572 calories. . So did I just double my calorie burn by accident and did Fitbit already count my 5k calorie burn?

Congratulations on the 5K @SunsetRunner! I'll be glad to explain what happened. Smiley Happy

Whenever you have synced your MyFitnessPal account and Fitbit, this means that all of your activity will be shared between both platforms; however, neither Fitbit nor MFP will recognize as a duplicate an activity that happened at the same time on both platforms, so it will add them both to the log.

My recommendation: Log all food and water through MyFitnessPal and log all exercises, steps and non step based activities through Fitbit; this way both platforms will be sharing different information between each other.

Hope this helps! Let me know f you have any questions Cat Very Happy
