FitStar New User Review

Short Version: I love it.

Longer version: Since I've only done the fitness test and one session with the Personal Trainer, and the initial skill survey for the Yoga, I haven't had a chance to discover all the problems yet. What I've seen so far, however, is very positive. I wondered how they could personalize a workout for my (fairly poor) fitness level, which is what hooked me in.

The Personal Trainer first asks you about your self-impression of your fitness level, then gives you a series of short clips trying a whole bunch of simple exercises, all integrated together nicely so it seems like one short workout session. After each exercise you get to tell it how long or how many reps you completed, and whether you thought it was too easy, just right, or too hard.

After the initial appraisal, it gives you some badges based on fitness levels of various parts of your body. I got level 3 on my legs, and two on most others... not surprising since about the only targeted exercise I get is walking.

The next workout (and subsequent ones) proceed along the same lines; you get to offer feedback at the end of each exercise so the trainer can personalize your next workout based on how well you did on that one.

The integration from Fitstar to Fitbit is seamless, but apparently it's a little tricky getting it set up right the first time. I offer what worked for me below.

Bottom line: I can recommend the basic service, based on my first trials and given that I'm in pretty sad shape. If it can automagically design a workout session for me that I can successfully complete, I'd guess that it can do that for just about anybody. 🙂

The Yoga works about the same way, but I've only taken the initial test so far, and I'll admit I marked almost all the poses there as "too hard." It will be interesting to see what it comes up with for me in the next session.

FitStar Integration Demystified

After reading about a lot of problems getting FitStar integrated with Fitbit, I decided to see if I could get it to work on the first try, based on all that I'd read.

This worked for me. I hope it works for other people.

First, create a new FitStar account. DO NOT choose Login With Fitbit. Use the same email address you used to set up your Fitbit account.

Log out of your FitStar account and close the application.

Restart the application. This time, choose Login With Fitbit. When your browser opens with a request to allow sharing between the two apps, allow the sharing.

After completing a session with Personal Trainer or Yoga, your results should appear in your Activity Log. At least mine did.

If anybody tries this and it fails, please let me know.

Hope this helps!

@SebringDon I hope you're doing well! What an excellent review about the Fitstar integration and also, great tips about how to link them for them to work with no problem. I'm pretty sure this will help a lot of users who are trying to set up their Fitbit trackers with Fitstar. Thank you got the great add on this.

Also, make sure to check the Discussions Board (pretty sure you already did) and feel free to post on any thread!

Thanks for being so helpful. See you around! Smiley Very Happy

Thanks for the review.

I thought it looked interesting too but was worried it might be too advanced for me as well.  I have a question.  Is there lots of jumping/stomping??   I live in an apartment and I dont think my neighbour below me would be too impressed. 🙂

Thx.
