Fitbit App Food log incorrectly syncing with MyFitnessPal

I pre log my food in MyFitnessPal and it’ll show up in the Myfitbit food log correctly at the beginning of the day. However when I change anything, it starts to incorrectly sync my food info only in the Fitbit food log. Like lunch today was 327 calories in MFP, but in the Fitbit app it says 612. It just doesn’t update any changes throughout the day in the Fitbit app. This never used to happen. It started about a week ago.  I tried to edit the food log in the Fitbit app but it just keeps spinning. I uninstalled and reinstalled both apps, reconnected both several times to each other, turned on and off my blue tooth, and restarted my phone several times. Nothing is working to correct this issue. Both apps are up to date. I’m ready to throw in the towel on my Charge 3 and just get an Apple Watch.

I just went to MPF ( not the app but on the website ) and there was the higher entries. It seems like the issue is with MPF. Once I changed it on the desktop, it immediately synced perfectly with fitbit and adjusting the number correctly.

Probably the issue is with the MFP app. Once you make changes there, they are somehow seen as extra entries on your fooddairy so ending up with higher figures.

Hope this helps

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @DZ13. Thanks for letting us know about the steps you have followed in order to sync your Charge 3 with MyFitnessPal.

MyFitnessPal tracks diet and exercise to determine optimal caloric intake and nutrients for customer goals. See www.myfitnesspal.com.

Information shared between MyFitnessPal and Fitbit:

From Fitbit to MyFitnessPal:
  • Steps
  • Calories
  • Scale measurements
From MyFitnessPal to Fitbit:
  • Logged food
  • Activities

Calories should go from MyFitnessPal to Fitbit. Some of the calories you register on MFP go to Fitbit or any of them?

Hi! Thanks for the welcome.

yea, the food log in MFP syncs correctly in Fitbit in the morning with the first sync. After that, when I change or delete foods in my fitness pal, they don’t sync properly in the Fitbit app. The Fitbit app isn’t recognizing changes in my fitness pal food log. It’ll just keep adding foods, but won’t recognize the changes. I tried to edit the food log in the Fitbit app but it won’t let me. It goes blank and the icon keeps spinning, so that’s not an option. I know my fitness pal is not the issue because my steps are syncing properly. This issue just started within the last week. Nothing that was suggested in the past worked to correct the issue, so I’ve been disconnecting MFP with the Fitbit app and just syncing at night so the Fitbit app properly syncs my food log. Hopefully they fix this ASAP.

Thanks for getting back to us and for the explanation or what you have done @DZ13. I haven't seen more incidents with the same description of your issue but I'll keep an eye on the MyFitnessPal threads to report it if it's an emerging situation.

I appreciate your patience and thank you for visiting our community.

Thanks! It’s a new issue. I’m sure we’ll see more of it. But if it’s not resolved soon, I’m just going to buy an Apple Watch. I rely heavily on my Fitbit to track my fitness goals, and it seems like there’s always an issue recently. I’m glad I waited to upgrade. Thanks again!

Do you thing it would be beneficial to contact customer support directly? This new issue is very frustrating. And I’ve combed through all the food log syncing issues and tried all the tips and it’s still not resolving.

I have the exact same issue, starting last Sunday. MFP and Fitbit will sync just fine until 2 or 3pm, then Fitbit starts adding phantom calories that aren't in my MFP. I've tried un-synco]ing/re-syncing (didn't help), deleting an entire meal from MFP and Fitbit then re-entering it in MFP (Fitbit re-logged the new meal, and then somehow added back the calories of the meal I deleted into one big total...). It's extremely frustrating.

I think a lot of people are experiencing this! If you look at the third party integration page, there’s a post there about Fitbit logging double calories and not recognizing deletions or changes in MFP. Unfortunately none of the methods they suggested are working for me to correct it. I have since contacted MFP technical support to see if they can help. I’ll keep you posted!

I’m having the same issue. If I change my MFP entries through the day, it doesn’t update in the Fitbit app, it just seems to add to it. Example: let’s say my breakfast is 300 calories, and I change something by about 50 calories, it just adds 50 to the initial 300.

@AndreaFitbit , please see the additional users' comments below. DZ13's issue is not an isolated incident .

Hi! @AndreaFitbit

There are multiple people experiencing this now (multiple posts about it). Any idea what we can do to fix this? Thank you so much!

I am having the same issue. I prelog my food and when adjusting in MPF, fitbit doesn’t pick it up correcty.

Hi I am having this exact same issue for about a week now too. I only log food on MFP in the app snd I do it in the morning. It works fine and correctly shows in Fitbit app until I use the MFP app after dinner to adjust or add any foods. Then any changes I make seem to cumulatively add but not subtract or delete. It’s basically making the Fitbit food tracking unusable. Very disappointing.
