LoseIt calories double counted in Fitbit

Hi all. I’ve had my LoseIt app connected to my Fitbit app for years.  No issues until a week ago when all my food is being double counted in Fitbit.  I’ve done all the recommended fixes.  Deleted both apps reinstalled etc twice no luck.  Anyone else having this?    I really like LoseIt better for tracking and don’t want to give it up.

This happened to me too! I can’t even get my calories/food to sync with Fitbit app. I’ve done everything too.

Mine just started double entry posting from Lose It! this week.  As long as I enter food in Lose It! all at one time, it's fine.  If I have to go back in and correct something, delete something, or add something else, it double enters the information in FitBit.

Yes also having this issue, mine duplicated every single time I edit so there is like 7-8x the accurate number of calories

Same here.  I  noticed it’s more than double counting but didn’t realize it happens when I edit.  Thanks for figuring that out!

I thought I had somehow accidentally linked LoseIt to FitBit twice, maybe once directly and once through HealthConnect, but I had not done anything like that.  Mine too started doing this around the time others are reporting.  I could see in my log where it was OK but suddenly crazy totals like 4,000 calories start appearing.  Like one of the above, I can replicate it reliably by editing any meal after it's made a data transfer.  That causes it to leave the original entry and then it creates another with the edited variation, usually where I've eaten something else after logging the original meal, and most often with snacks as I eat something here and there throughout the day.  Has anybody reported this to LoseIt people?  Or is there a bug report for FitBit?  I'm not even able to tell which side became the problem here.  If there is a bug report on either and a way to +1 it, I'd like to add to that.

I have not reported it to LoseIt because somehow I assumed it was on Fitbit
side. I’m going to try to figure out how to report on both today. Will
report back

Hi all. I reported this to both Fitbit case#6-0585000040064 and LoseIt case #637353 today.  Of course they wanted me to delink and relink etc stuff we’ve all tried.   I’ll keep you posted.  I’m retired so it’s much easier to take the time!

thank you for your support and reporting this.

Hey Stillababe, you have my everlasting gratitude for taking the time to file those bug reports with both sides.  These problems that involve some kind of data link between two different applications can sometimes be a real pain to resolve because it isn't that easy to figure out which side has introduced the malfunction unless somebody noted the exact date the duplication started happening and can also tie it to only one of the two applications having issued an update right on or very near that date.  I did have a very specific date when duplicates started appearing, but I had quickly started clearing duplicate records and kept doing so for a couple of weeks before realizing I should have taken note of when exactly it started!  But then again, there is also a possibility of something changing server-side for one or the other.  So here we are, and we can hope for one or the other to find themselves responsible and fix the problem without what often happens with these two system interaction issues -- where both sides just point at the other and say "it's not us, it's them".  😄

I just got a Pixel Watch 4 and it included 6 months of Fitbit Premium. I'm having the same issue, having used Lose It to count my calories for years. I've decided to unlink the "food" section until this is hashed out...

I don't really know if there's a reason I would need to log my calories in both apps, as long as the calorie burn and bonus calories are being reported correctly to Lose It.

Welcome to the party. Update is I’ve had several email exchanges with
Google/fitbit where they suggested a variation of what we have all done.
Disconnecting deleting etc etc. nothing worked for me. I told them what
another poster here figured out: It really only happens when you go back
and edit a meal. I will keep you all posted but not until they come up
with something that works. LoseIt acknowledged my report but also
implied it was going to be awhile.

Has anyone contacted Lose It? Not just reported.. What did they say?

Yes I contacted LoseIt. They gave me case #637353. basically they said
it’s going to be awhile. Please feel free to ping again.

Hi all,

I heard back from LoseIt today after asking for update.  They said that the Fitbit/loseit users are such a small part of their community and they themselves are such a small team that it’s going to take awhile and is not the priority ☹️.  Makes me wonder if it is on the LoseIt side.    I wonder if other Fitbit users whole link to other calorie counters are having issues.  Or LoseIt users linked to other fitness apps?   Kind of sorry I popped for LoseIt lifetime membership

Well, that's a real letdown.  I wondered the same thing.  I might install a few others one at a time and try linking those in and see what happens -- removing the linkage to LoseIt while I'm entering on another, of course, but feeling like I still need to be entering into LoseIt in case I end up staying with it.  I had moved TO LoseIt after MyFitnessPal moved the food scanning feature to premium only and their premium subscription was fairly expensive no lifetime option.  Seems like LoseIt's lifetime membership that I bought on sale at the time was less expensive than a single year of MyFitnessPal.  I also had tried a couple of others around that time (Cronometer, and can't remember others) and wasn't really thrilled with those.  I just wish I could have an application just work the way I need it to work and not either eventually break something and not fix it or move basic features to higher pricing tiers.  I seem to have several types of application that I find myself bouncing back and forth between options because of broken features or changes in pricing models or whatever 😞

EDIT:  If I find a few minutes to get Cronometer and/or MFP installed and linked to FitBit, I'll test drive for a couple of days and report back on whether this problem is unique to LoseIt.

New development, at least for me.  I noticed that yesterday's entries into LoseIt were not appearing in Fitbit at all even at end of day.  I found the data connection had somehow indicated an error, so I re-established, forced sync, refreshed Fitbit, and still no data.  As of this morning, no change.  I tried directly entering food into Fitbit and the entries disappear completely.  A Fitbit forum shows that this is a new problem as of yesterday, and in the one day there were 44 pages of "me too" replies with one from a Fitbit staffer saying they are aware of the problem and trying to figure it out.  I'm not sure if any of you have had this happen.  Now I'm wondering if the sync issues might really be the Fitbit side being buggy.  I was just about to start tearing Cronimeter to see if it duplicates entries when edits or adds are made, and then this new problem came along.

EDIT:  If anybody else is now having the "disappearing entries" or data no longer appearing at all from LoseIt, here's the link to the thread on that issue:
Solved: Re: Food Log Entries Disappearing - Page 45 - Fitbit Community

Note they've marked it as "solved".  It is not solved.  That "solution" was indicated only because the Fitbit staffer marked his own post as the "best answer" to route attention to it.  His post was the one I mentioned that mentions this as a "known problem".

Yes!  I had that yesterday!   My exercise Fitbit cals were still transferring to lose it.  But my lose it food log did not show yesterday.

This is good news I think.  If our “tiny LoseIt/fitbit community “ is related to this bigger issue we might get ours solved inadvertently!    I just checked the link.  Now 54 pages.  People still having issue.   It’s funny because I was thinking why don’t I just log directly into Fitbit!

Hilarious, because the thought of directly logging my eating to FitBit had just become one of my considerations before this vanishing entries issue.

For me, the vanishing data phenomenon has itself vanished, and I can both directly add food to the FitBit app and what is in LoseIt for the two previously missing days has appeared.  Unfortunately we didn't get an inadvertent fix for our duplication problem.  I seem to have somehow eaten 5,000 calories today!!  So I'm now back to planning for a test of 2 or 3 other apps this weekend to see if the duplication issue is isolated to LoseIt, which would mean it is LoseIt's bug, or if one or more others also do this, which bounces the problem back to FitBit.  As I mentioned before the disappearing transactions distraction came along, I'll report back with findings.
