MyFitnessPal and MapMyRun with Fitbit

If MyFitnessPal is connected to MapMyRun and Fitbit is connected to both of those apps, am I messing up my log? I'm not sure if these apps can all intertwine with each other and figure out what data should be added without doubling new data.

Hi there @SunsetRunner! I realize this response is a long time coming, but did want to take the time to address your post.

So you can have a better understanding on how MFP and MapMyRun work with Fitbit, here is a chart that can clarify any questions you might have:

What syncs?

Fitbit > Steps > MFP
Fitbit > Calories > MFP
Fitbit > Aria measurements > MFP
MFP > Logged food > Fitbit
MFP > Activities > Fitbit

What Syncs?
Fitbit > Distance > MapMyFitness apps
Fitbit > Calories > MapMyFitness apps

This last chart says MapMyFitness, however, it will work the same with MapMyRun. Smiley Happy

I hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the sync information above!

As far as an activity, when I run, do I simultaneously start the activity on my Charge HR (by holding down the button) and MapMyRun?  Or do I only have it track on MapMyRun?

I did this for the first time yesterday and I noticed that my fitbit dashboard showed 2 activities, one that was synced from MapMyRun and one from fitbit.  I deleted the fitbit one because I was afraid it was double-counting my exercise activity.  I only regret doing that because the fitbit activity showed my heartrate whereas the MapMyRun doesn't, but it has my route from GPS!

What do you suggest in tracking the best information?  I currently use Charge HR, MapMyRun, MyFitnessPal, and AchieveMint.  Thanks!

I am confused about how this works, even after looking at the how things synch!  I have my Fitbit Charge account linked to MapMyFitness & MyFitnessPal.  I log my activities into MapMyFitness through UnderArmourRecord, which synchs to MyFitnessPal, then to Fitbit.  MyFitnessPal for whatever reason doesn't recognize a treadmill workout & will record it as an elliptical workout, so I ususally have to record the workout as a walk.  The Fitbit Dashboard recent exercise time is correct with the number of minutes but the active minutes are always doubled.  Is this because I have both MFP and MMF linked?  There's no way to edit this either!  It just seems to start doing this the last few weeks that I've noticed!  HELP!

Hi @Coronas! I believe it would be best for you to use only one app in order to register your workout. Since Fitbit is capable to share your distance and calorie data, I recommend you only use this in order to register your workout. If you are also registering your walk or run in MapMyRun, this will duplicate your exercise.

@Gailrr I think that this is what is happening to you and for that reason, your active minutes as duplicating. If you are registering your workout on the 3 apps, then you will definitely see unaccurate data on each account.

I hope this helps you out.

A year late to this but I have a question that I hope to goodness gets answered or that I can find somewhere else.  I was having this issue as well where myfitnesspal AND my fitbit charge HR were double logging activities because I would "start activity" with mapmyrun (which was synced with my fitbit and mfp) and "start workout" by hitting the button on my fitbit.

I heard that using both at the same time was a GOOD idea because the charge HR does not have gps built in. If I have all three aps synced though, will the fitbit automatically use the gps from mapmyrun? I am just done with this double counting my exercise, I am worried I'm going to gain weight because I'm being duped into thinking I have more calories to fall back on! 😮
