Re: syncing FitBit with google Fit?

Sorry, but your answer is a bunch of nonsense 🙂 Fitbit should unquestionably allow syncing data -out- from Fitbit, this allows Fitbit users to benefit from value created by other products and services without Fitbit needing to build it themselves. For example, I want integration so Fitbit can log the workout, tell Google Fit that I logged the workout, and Google Fit can automatically mark my calendar goal to work out complete. These are the kinds of scenarios users will come to expect as table stakes. Closed systems don't cut it - they are anti-customer and are designed to serve the interest of the company. Walled garden era has ended, product and service providers need to figure out defensible ways to participate in the 'open' ecosystem or they will suffocate.

I get what you're saying but if you think about it, allowing for Fitbit to integrate with Google Fit would hurt both Fitbit and Google.  If they allow for the integration you talk about, what is the point of direct partners of Google Fit that have fully committed themselves to that system (Fossil, Motorola, etc) to want to make products for Google Fit when they know they would lose out because Fitbit is the more popular device and can sync with Google Fit?

Why not just use myfitnesspal as your primary dashboard?  That application takes in fitbit information.  While Google Fit integration is a nice feature, I'll be honest:  I have tried using Google Fit even when I had a Google Fit watch and I just hated it.  There's just no real good data/analysis you get from using Google Fit as a user.  I have been hoping that Google Fit would mature somewhat since it was introduced back in 2014 but 3 years later and it's still the "dumbed down" version of what a fitness app should do.  Also, knowing Google, I would not be surprised if one day they decide to abandon that project all together based on how they've abandoned other products in the past.

If anything, you should really consider Garmin.  But that's for another debate.  😉
