Suggestions on best Long Term Device and App combo options

Goal of this post: Have users vote or make suggestion for best Device and App combo options in the market for long term use that might allow the user to migrate data if they switch apps or devices in the future.

I’m very interested to hear what Fitbit users might suggest as the best Device and App combo for long term open source use that would allow me to download and migrate data if I wanted to.  Bottom line: I want to have a 10 year history of what I’ve done in total 10 years from now without having to look at 4 different sources/old apps etc.

My situation:

I've used Samsung S Health on my phone for last 18 months.  Got more and more involved in tracking steps and other exercise and really got hooked into using it for motivation.  I've lost 30 pounds.  I wanted to take it to the next level and upgrade because I wasn't tracking the 30% of the data generated when I didn't have my phone on me and I wanted freedom to hike, swim, exercise without having my phone on me.

I bought a Flex 2 for $20 from a friend.  Instant gratification.  Love that all my steps are counted and immediately loved the fact it tracks sleep as well.

Samsung has told me I can’t download my past data so I can upload it anywhere (let alone into Fit Bit). I could log my steps for the past 18 months by copying manually from my phone but that would take a long time.  I learned the same thing about Fitbit. Basically if I start using Fitbit for next 2 years and then change to something else, my data won’t be available for download in a format that I can use to migrate it to another platform.

I need to upgrade from Flex 2 to a device that has a readout, tracks heartrate and sleep. I want it to be a device and app combo that will allow me to download my data in a year or 2 if something new comes along and I want to change.

Please share your thoughts with me on what you think the best options are for doing this in the future.

Thank you.

Hello @SaLTeY, let me start by giving you a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community. I was reading your post and it is very interesting what you are suggesting.

So far there is no third party integration combo that allows you to transfer a long history of data from one service to another, at least not among the officially supported app. The reason of this, is because with third party apps, it might vary depending of which data syncs and share among the connection with Fitbit and the third party app.

It is possible that there is an app using our open API which not necessarily is supported, but I'm not familiar which one would be the best or if it will do what you are looking for. Let see what other members of our Fitbit Community can share about this.

However I believe if this is of your interest, it would be worth to share your feedback in our Feature suggestion board. I was looking for similar ideas, but in my opinion none of the ideas I found, reflect your feedback. Here is one for you to review and it was shared recently: S Health info transfer to Fitbit app

You can vote and share your comments but if this is not what you want, it would be a nice opportunity to share your feedback and gather support from other users along the way. Note that our product development teams consult regularly to ensure we're delivering on what our users need and want.

In a different note, I want to congratulate you about the effort you are investing to loose weight. I know it requires a lot of commintent and you have loose the incredible amount of 30 pounds, which is not a small thing. Kudos for that.

See you later and let me know if you have other concerns.
