Why aren't friends showing up in my list?

I have emailed two friends an invite who have fitbit.  They both accepted, but they still do not show up on my list.  I believe I logged in with FaceBook.  Is this why?  Can I only be friends with FaceBook, Fitbitters?

Your Friends must have the Friend Rankings set to "Show me" in Fitbit Preferences under Personal Settings

Every person I sent request accepted and I got an email yet NONE of them on my list. I don't know how to send a message telling them I can't see them. I wanted to invite them to challenges or no point being friends ???? Confused
