Why does my fitbit take away calories for Mfp?

I sync my fitbit with my Mfp. For a couple of days after I put in my activities the fitbit line takes away calories. Am I doing something wrong?

Fitbit is not taking away caloreis. The Fitbit adjustment on MFp is calculated by MFP every time it syncs to Fitbit. It is comparing what MFP expects you to have burned so far to your Ftibit burn at that time. The adjustment is just meant to correct/customize the difference. So if you burn exactly what is expected you would have a zero adjustment, if you burn less it takes some away, if you burn more it adds some.

 

What MFP expects:

*Your Mifflin BMR based on your height, weight, age and gender. This is prorated for every hour of the day starting at 12am. 

*A certain amount of general activity based on the activity level you chose on MFP (sedentary, lightly active, active and very active). This is also prorated each hour since 12am. Oh this and BMR are actually combinbed because the way MFP estimates this is it multiplies your BMR by an activity multiplier and the resulting number includes both BMR and general activity. For example, if set to sedentary it multiplies your BMR by something like 1.25.  So even at sedentary it assumes a certain amount of activity calories. You can see this number if you go into your MFP goals page and look for "calories burned from daily activity". 

*Any exercise you log on MFP is excluded from your adjustment and included in what MFP expects. Sometimes people log all their activity then are surprised to see a negative adjustment on a day that they were quite active. (I had an MFP/Fitbit friend who asked me this and looking at her log, she logged walking, gardening, house cleaning, plus her workouts all on MFP--so all her non logged calories burned were basically sedentary time so she always had a large negative adjustment. I think she was set to "Active" on MFP. To this person: sorry if you are reading this, I just think this is a good example of this issue). 

 

If you are seeing a negative number you can:

*Lower your MFP activity level (if higher than sedentary)

*Move more (more fitbit activity = more positive adjustment)

*Reconsider any exercise you log on MFP especially if logging non-exercise or step based activities. I actually log exercise to Fitbit rather than MFP and it is included in my adjustment this way.
