That is not true, Windows Phone 8.1 does support bluetooth 4.0. In fact the Lumia 920 a 2 year old phone has bluetooth 4.0 http://www.nokia.com/us-en/phones/phone/lumia920/specifications/

Good news for anyone reading this thread that has not yet seen the news: the Windows Phone app feature request is now Under Consideration:

"Status: Under Review

Fitbit is developing an application for Windows Phone 8.1. Thank you for all your feedback and support!"

There have also been commitments to a Windows Phone official app made on social media.

Yay!

@EdgarFitbit

Please see my post in the forum: Fitbit ONE connected with Windows Phone 8.1

Now that Windows Phone connect to Fitbit, please let us (WP user) know of an ETA for the Windows App...

Or at least communicate on progress...

Thank you.

Great that the official Windows Phone App is "Under Review"...

The question is: is it at all in development or are they "thinking" about it! this has been going on for nearly 2 years now...

With the current release of WP 8.1, I am pleased to report that my Fitbit One paires and connect nicely with my Lumia 1520 (WP8.1 official release received a couple of days ago).... Yeaahh!

See my other post for screenshots: Fitbit One connectED with WP8.1

So the question is no longer how (ie BLE 4.0 not supported bla bla) but WHEN ?

I wished Fitbit Dev team could communicate on this...

As the WP8.1 SDK is now available (for free!) since April 2014, surely (?) they already have made good progress on developing the official WP 8.1 apps (especially when they already have a Win 8 app which could be modified and ported to WP8.1 (unified app from Micorsoft SDK ...)...

Therefore When is WHEN?

Tony.

Great, I can't wait to get it, even in the most simplistic form (sync only) as I can check my data with the web dashboard or the Fitbit tracker app for the time being...

hopefully not too long left to wait for it!

@happytoon I hope so Robot Happy In the meantime, feel free to sync with your Fitbit Dashboard.

@peSHIr mentioned something very important in this discussion. If you've already installed the Windows app, as long as you're within 15 to 20 feet of a computer with a plugged in dongle, you'll see your stats updated. Also keep in mind that all Fitbit trackers can record detailed minute-by-minute steps, calorie burn data, and sleep records for at least 7 days between sync opportunities. That means that you can sync everytime. A daily sync is recommended but not required (just in case you don't have access to a computer all the time).

Happy stepping to both of you!

@EdgarFitbit

indeed. Currently I have one dongle on a mac at home AND one on a PC in the office!!!

I just came back front 2 weeks holiday abroad with no access to PC. So I couldn't know how I was doing on a daily basis unless I keep a manual log on paper via the one screen. No chance for my partner with her flex!...

most days I am away from office or home. Only see the sync in the evening once home... Too late to clock the extra active minute to reach my goal etc...

sync mobile it's so much more convenient...

Please make sure it's a so called Universal App (when possible, not sure about the BT 4.0 LE APIs for that) so that work on that app would give both a Windows Phone 8.1 app and a Windows 8.1 tablet app (=the same thing) without any extra effort. Pretty please..

That's the not the Windows app (the Metro one, for Windows 8+ PCs and tablets), which does not auto-sync. It only sync by going to app settings, devices and then tapping the Sync button. And that sync very often fails with a timeout. And that app is only published in the US, so I had to temporarily set my Surface 2 RT tablet to US region to even be able to see it in the Store and be able to download and install it. Luckily after all that, it (sort of) works, and I can use it to do "mobile" syncs, most of the time.

What I was talking about was the Windows (Win32) application that nestles in the start bar notification area. That one does auto-sync, but only when the PC is on. At home, this will not work, as my PC is never on continuously. Once in a while I get home while my wife is on here laptop, and I get the unexpected bonus of auto-sync. At work it might work, but only if I remember the BT dongle that I normally have in my Surface 2 at home with me to work (which is not often). This Win32 app does not work on Windows RT tablets, obviously.

In other words: a truly mobile sync on Windows Devices (Windows Phones, and preferably Windows based tablets, including) using a "Metro" style, and as easy as "open app, hit sync button" (no settings dance) or preferably a timed auto-sync options is *PARAMOUNT* for Fitbit..

@peSHIr Thanks for your feedback. Regarding the Windows app, you're right. I was just explaining something related to @happytoon. As long as you have your computer or tablet running Windows 8.1 and the Fitbit dongle plugged in, you'll be able to sync. I'm sorry about the app availability. I will pass your feedback and your suggestions to our team.

@happytoon I can understand that. I don't have a compatible movile device but I wish I could have one to make things easier. Hope we can meet your expectations soon.

P.S. I decided to move your posts to this discussion so every member can be aware of them. Thanks for participating!

I'm disappointed it's for windows phone 8.1 as I have a windows 7 phone 😞

@Magnifiedme, while I can understand your dissappointment, the older devices simply didn't have the updated bluetooth chipset that enables syncing to work efficiently.  This is true independent of platform; for instance, the iPhone 4 (predecessor to the 4s) is also unable to sync with the fitbit.

However, you can get a Windows Phone 8.1 device pretty cheaply these days.  For instance you can get a Lumia 520 for about $50 (US) these days (this is completely out of contract, I got one for about $45).  And this handset updates and runs Cyan (the update you need to run the fitbit app, which I've confirmed runs great).

Looking at devices in your area (your profile says Canada), I looked at which devices were getting the Cyan updates, looks like you can get the Lumia 520 (and update to WP 8.1) in any one of these carriers:  Chatr Wirless, Koodo, Rogers, Telus

Or you can just get a newer device which already has Windows Phone 8.1.  I just wanted to point out that upgrading handsets may not be as painful as you may think...

I hope this helps.

@PureEvil Great response! Thanks for the support.

@Magnifiedme You can try to update. As long as you have a Windows Phoen 8.1 with Bluetooth Low Energy and the Lumia Cyan firmware, you'll be able to sync at any time. You can always sync with your computer as long as you have the USB dongle plugged in and the software installed. You can check the availability of the Lumia Cyan here: http://www.microsoft.com/en/mobile/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/

Unfortunately I have a windows 7 phone, I cannot update to windows 8 - but I'm looking at an android phone in the next couple months as windows is limited to apps still...

@Magnifiedme,

That's fair; though I know I'd personally miss the 'live' tiles on Windows Phone and Cortana (on Windows Phone 8.1).

For whatever it's worth, there are more apps available on Windows Phone 8.1 than Windows Phone 7, and more and more every day (ironically, the fitbit app is a prime example of that).

If syncing with fitbit is something that you'll absolutely need on your next smartphone, make sure you check the supported devices before selecting your phone...  Just because a phone is running Android, it does not mean that it'll necessarily work.  For instance, if you look at the Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+ in Telus, it does not seem to support bluetooth LE (required for fitbit sync) nor is it among the devices listed for fitbit sync.

I hope this helps.

Ok so now there is windows phone app, but you can't track food in it!  That would be so helpful to be able to track my food right away in the application vs have to remember to login later and fill it out. When will this be available?
