I’ve seen several questions about how to turn off auto detect (it is so annoying)!
Here’s how: on your Today screen in the FitBit app, touch the gear icon on the upper right hand side of the screen. That will take you to Settings. The second item on the App Settings (below the account info) is Push Notifications. Select that and you’ll see that the first item under Health & Fitness is the auto detect. Turn it off and you’re done!

Hello @Versa4Sleuth and welcome to the Community. I'm sorry, but the path you are describing is for a different feature. Fitbit has a list of auto recognized activities called SmartTrack. These are walk, run, elliptical, sports, aerobic workout, outdoor bike, and swimming. You don't have to do anything to start or stop them and they can't use GPS. The path you describe sends a push notification when it detects you did one of these for the first time. When the Versa 4 was new, it has an Auto Detection feature that turns on the Exercise app for three shortcuts: walk, run, and bike. The recent firmware update added elliptical, rowing, and spinning. These turn on the Exercise app and can use GPS. You control these exercise in the Exercise app on the Versa 4. You need to go into the settings for each shortcut, look for an Auto Start option and toggle it off.
