No battery on my Versa 4 so didn't log my activity this am. How do I log it in manually?
Also, since I get up sometimes at night (then to back to sleep), my sleep log is inaccurate. Is there any way to fix this?

Welcome to the Fitbit community, @SunsetRunner!
I'm sorry to say, but there's no way to manually enter activities.
To better adapt your device to your sleep habbits you might want to change the setting for sleep sensitivity to check if that will improve sleep tracking for you. Please have a look at 'What's the difference between the normal and sensitive sleep setting?' following the link I've provided below to see how that's done:
How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?
Also setting up a sleep schedule and a sleep goal could do the trick as explained in the link above.

Well, I did change the sleep mode to sensitive and it kinda works - but not quite. I'm only concerned because the main reason I'm wearing this device is for participation in a study. Just don't want them to get wrong stats. I'll write to them to let them know.

Thanks for reporting back, @SunsetRunner.
Good idea to talk with the study provider about those changes in your device's settings.
