No preview on Versa 4 for notifications

I recently changed from Versa 2 to Versa 4 after the connection port for the watch band broke and is not repairable. On the Versa 2 if I got a text/email I would get a preview on the watch display immediately without touching it at all. Now on the Versa 4, if I get a text/email there is a light buzzing but the screen doesn’t come on. I have to double-tap to wake watch then swipe up and tap again to open.

This is very inconvenient for things like MFA codes or reviewing short replies. On the Versa 2 if I got a text with MFA code it would display immediately in the preview without touching the watch. Now I have to tap-tap-swipe-tap engaging the watch as much as I would a phone to get the code.

Is this the intent or is the watch malfunctioning? Phone is Galaxy S21 FE 5G and is updated to latest. I’ve factory reset watch and uninstalled/reinstalled/reconfigured Fitbit app multiple times and screen never comes on with preview even if display is set to 'always on.'  All I get is a light buzzing which is less strong than the Versa 2 even at it’s strongest settings.

To show the preview should at least be optional and if not will consider a different brand or find another Versa 2. But I'm not sure if the Versa 4 should wake screen and show preview without tapping in the first place.  Can anyone confirm functionality please? I've watched numerous video reviews and nobody mentions this.

This never worked and I returned the Versa 4.  Fairly useless device if it doesn't display notifications.  Known issue but they never fixed it and probably won't.  Looks like hit or miss whether you get a device with the issue.  They also removed the ability to add any apps in the small app store which had been built in.  Vibrate is barely noticeable at highest settings.  Basically the same as before with less functionality.

Seems with Google now development of fitbits and support will wane.  The first thing you see when going to the Fitbit store via the app on the phone shows the Pixel watch 3.  If that doesn't tell you something I don't know what will.  I ended up getting a Versa 3 which is slightly better except the screen constantly shuts off trying to swipe/scroll through options. Purchased a Versa 2 and will probably go back to that using the 3 as a backup.
