No one should be surprised as many companies who release products close to the holidays do the same thing. They sell it as a pre-order or initial release at a certain price, then reduce it for the holidays.
What they will likely do is raise the price on their website from the pre-order price to a higher price, then when you get a “discount” at Costco or other store, the price will come down to around the pre-order price. Standard business fair around the holidays for new products.
