Strava syncing issues

I'm having issues with the sync between my Fitbit and Strava. When going for a run I track it via Fitbit to be able to see my pace and distance on my wrist and it then syncs to Strava once complete.

The issue is, my Fitbit distance and time is accurate however when this goes over to Strava the time run is shorter as is the distance.

For example, Fitbit is showing distance of 8.12miles and time 1hr 15 mins. When this comes through to Strava it is showing 6.96miles in 1hr 3 minutes. Both show a map of the run and GPS is connected, how can the distance be different?

Any help or advice on having these sync properly would be much appreciated.

Hi @Kh1995.

I think this comes down to how each platform processes the data. As far as I know, Fitbit sends the GPX file to Strava and then Strava will process that using their own algorithm.

An example is that Fitbit's distance algorithm uses steps multiplied by stride length, with GPS being used periodically to update the stride length. Strava likely uses just the raw GPS data to determine distance. As for duration, Strava might be displaying actual moving time vs total elapsed time.

As you can imagine this will cause some discrepancies between the two and would explain what you are seeing here.
