Versa 4 device won't charge and won't sync

I think my Fitbit accidentally got stuck in an update process and now is frozen on the blue Fitbit logo.

While plugged into the charger: When I try to initiate the update in the app again while the watch is on the charger, it fails and says to try again later. Here are other things I have tried:

1) Removed the Fitbit from Bluetooth known devices and added it back in (now currently noted as connected, but only while connected to the charger)

2) Tried to change the clock face in the app to restart the clock screen, but this did not work despite it has updated the clock face visual in the app on my phone

3) Reinitiated the hardware update in the app, but this fails every time.

4) I saw a note on the Support community telling you to take the device off the charger and try and force restart, but when I remove the device from the charger, I get a black screen. When I try and force restart, it shows a flashing blue outlined logo for a few flashes and then a red X. Then goes back to a blank screen.

Do you have any other tricks I could try? I've now not been able to use my device for over a week and I'm having withdrawals! 😞 Is there a way to check if the device isn't charging properly and/or if there is an issue with the device sync?

Moderator edit: clarified subject.
