Possible Causes:

  1. Heart Rate Tracking Issues:
Accurate sleep stage tracking, including REM, relies heavily on consistent heart rate data. If your Versa 4 isn't getting a reliable heart rate reading during sleep, it may not be able to determine your sleep stages.
    This can be due to:
    A loose or too-tight band.
The watch positioned too low on your wrist.
Interferences from certain wrist movements or sleeping positions.
  2. Software Glitches:
Software updates, while intended to improve performance, can sometimes introduce unexpected bugs.
Glitches in the Fitbit firmware or the Fitbit app could disrupt sleep tracking.
  3. Sleep Tracking Requirements:
Fitbit's sleep tracking algorithms have certain requirements:
You must sleep for at least 3 hours for sleep stages to be recorded.
A critically low battery can prevent accurate tracking.
Using the "Begin Sleep Now" option in the app can sometimes interfere with automatic sleep stage detection.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Check Watch Placement and Band Fit: Ensure your Versa 4 is snug but comfortable, positioned about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone.
  • Restart Your Fitbit and Phone: A simple restart can often resolve temporary software glitches. Restart both your Fitbit Versa 4 and your smartphone.
  • Sync Your Fitbit App: Make sure your Fitbit app is fully synced with your Versa 4.
  • Update Fitbit App and Firmware: Verify that you have the latest versions of the Fitbit app and your Versa 4's firmware installed.
  • Check Battery Level: Ensure your Versa 4 has sufficient battery charge before going to bed.
  • Fitbit Community and Support: The Fitbit Community forums are a valuable resource for finding solutions to common issues. Other users may have experienced the same problem and found workarounds. If the problem persists, contact Fitbit Support for assistance.
