Versa 4 is adding to many steps

My Versa 4 is brand new but it is adding steps every second even when I’m not wearing it.

So far today I’ve sat in my office for work but have apparently completed 21k steps and nearly 10miles of distance…

So far I’ve restarted the Versa 4,  restarted the app,  restarted my iPhone and then I resorted to a factory reset. But none of these solved the issue for long.

any advice is welcomed.

Turns out my Versa 4 was defective.

The Supplier replaced it immediately and the replacement is functioning correctly 👍

I'm curious what this said before mod edited it; often seems to change the meaning.

As opposed to continually adding multitudes of extra steps, what is more common with that many steps is for it to have added a huge number, like 10K or 20K steps, all at once.  That has been happening occasionally for years, with no obvious connection to the particular model.  The one thing I have noted is that it only seems to happen to people who have "Mobile Track" set up as a device, many of these people not even realizing they have that set up as a device.  The best advice I can offer is to check is to see if you have that listed as a device and remove it if so, and see if it happens again.  In case you are not familiar with it, "Mobile Track" is meant to allow you to use your phone to track your steps when you are not wearing your Fitbit.

The problem of huge numbers of steps being suddenly added, including during the night, has been reported to Fitbit years ago but I have not seen anything done about it.

No I don’t have mobile tracking set up. The Versa 4 simply adds 1-8 steps every second even when not being worn. I’m now at 40k steps and 18miles.

For context my previous Fitbit recorded between 3.5 and 8.5k steps on a normal day.

Unfortunately if I can’t find a solution I’ll need to return this as it’s completely useless.

In that case, ignore my above reply. This is a totally different situation I am not familiar with.  Sorry, but I'm no help.
