Versa 4 isn't tracking my sleep data accurately

For at least the last three months, my Versa 4 hasn't been recording/reporting my sleep data accurately. At first, it was inaccurate only one or two nights a week, so I assumed maybe I really did only get 2 or 3 hours of sleep those nights. However, it has gotten to the point where my Fitbit is only recording only 2 to 4 hrs of sleep nearly every night, even though I know I've slept longer than that. Today, it didn't record any of my sleep at all.

So, this morning, after receiving no sleep data at all despite syncing my Fitbit and phone multiple times, I came on here to see if there was a solution to this problem. I found a thread where one user said if you manually add your sleep time, all the sleep data (stages, duration, etc.) will magically show up on the app. So, I tried their fix, and it worked. I manually edited my sleep time for last night and the night before. For both nights, the app suddenly reported extra sleep data that it hadn't provided me with before I went in and manually edited my sleep time.

This tells me that my Versa 4 is detecting and recording my sleep, but then something is going wrong when it communicates with the app. It used to report my sleep just fine. I have a health condition that is triggered by a lack of sleep, so it's vital that I get accurate sleep data. If I have to manually enter my sleep time every morning from now on to get accurate sleep data, I'm going to be buying a different tracker.

A warm welcome to the community @cdacda

Thank you for sharing this information about the inconvenience you've been experiencing with your Versa 4.

When your body is completely at rest and you haven’t moved for about an hour, your device should record that you’re asleepBefore considering other options, please keep in mind that there are some factors that may prevent your tracker from recording your sleep. Please make sure of the following:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device as described in this help article.
  • If you slept for less than 1 hour for sleep patterns or less than 3 hours for sleep stages.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

If you haven't done so already, please follow the steps listed here below:

  1. Complete a three pulse restart procedure.
  2. Try adjusting the sleep sensitivity on the Fitbit app and check if you continue to have the same problem.

In addition, please wear your device on your non-dominant hand and monitor it for the next few days. As you mentioned, for the nights that don't have sleep data, you can manually log your sleep by going to the Fitbit app, tapping on the "+" icon next to the sleep tile > Add Sleep Log and entering your details.

Let me know if after performing these steps you are still experiencing the same situation.

My watch is plenty snug, it's charged, I'm not sleeping in a weird position, and I'm asleep for more than 3 hours. I tried restarting the device multiple times and tried adjusting the sleep sensitivity months ago when I first realized my Versa 4 wasn't recording my sleep correctly. Nothing has fixed my problem.

Also, I've just realized that my Versa 4 hasn't been auto recognizing my workouts since March. I didn't notice it until now because I've been pretty sedentary this summer from a chronic illness and then a muscle injury, but I walked for 3.5 hours on Thursday, and my Versa 4 recorded my steps and heart rate, but didn't automatically record it as exercise like it has in the past.

To be honest, I'm pretty fed up with this device. I never had any problems with my Versa 2, and the only reason I upgraded to the 4 was because the material on the side that touched my skin started rubbing off and the newly exposed material underneath gave me a rash.

None of this worked. My Versa still isn't tracking my sleep accurately unless I input it manually, and that defeats the whole purpose of having a fitness tracker that tracks sleep.
