Versa 4 stuck on a red X

So my dad has had this fitbit for 2 years now. Suddenly in the evening today, the fitbit turned off and started showing red cross (X) on the screen after I kept holding the power button for 10 seconds in hopes that it would restart. It didn't. It still shows the red cross (X) and I've kept this for charging for the past 2 hours but nothings happening yet. I also tried to connect it to the app but still nothing. I just can't get the home screen on the watch (like the screen where the watch shows the time, steps, etc). I'm hoping someone would be able to guide me as my dad is

Hi there, @Lifeisworkingis. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your dad's Versa 4 is still unresponsive. I understand your concern, I will do my best to help you with this!

Even when the screen seems to be dead, would you mind trying to sync? To do so, please try to manually sync your Versa 4 by tapping your profile picture >  your device image > Sync Now.  By doing this, a firmware update banner should appear.

If Sync Now doesn’t show an update banner, please tap your profile picture > your device image > Gallery. The app should show a popup to install the missing apps to install the missing apps and recover the device. If the firmware update banner does not show, press and hold the side button for 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on the screen, then release the button. For more information please visit How do I restart my Fitbit device?

If none of the above works, please try a manual factory reset: Press and hold the button for about 8 seconds until the screen turns off and vibrates. When you feel the vibration, release the button, then immediately press and hold the button again. Wait for the Fitbit logo to appear, then as soon as the logo disappears, release the button, then press and hold the button again. When you feel the vibration, release the button, then wait for the watch to complete the factory reset.

Same thing happened to walking along on the evening of the 9th watch vibrated I looked down Fitbit logo flashing now in a red x boot loop. Been through support and nothing it's able to break the cycle. For me the odd things was it's literally 3 years to the hour since I set it up and there was also a update pending when I went into the app, I left the watch cycle for hours and at one point to came back on but when I went to sync it worked and then went back into boot loop. Definitely software related I feel. But the device is now useless

Thanks for the help.

Well, the watch for some reason couldn't sync with the app (i did the app update few yesterday) nor did I get the option for syncing it in the app.

I just did the factory reset and after 5 unsuccessful attempts, the watch started thankfully.

Thank you so much for it but i think the new update kinda made some issues in it.

Do the factory reset. It started working after the reset......took time.

So, left it off charge all night rebooting until flat, plugged in this
morning just say cycle, left it on charge all day, came back in same
cycle, to be honest threw it on floor,, picked it back up held button down
and it vibrated, kept pressing on and off more in frustration, then it came
on vibrated and I held button it vibrated again and then I let go and tada
the circle appeared around the logo and it did a factory reset, now all set
up again. Insane had been doing this for last like 3 days, but pleased that
a device has been saved from the scrap pile

it was a nightmare to get it to eventually rest, charging and discharging it and then eventually it decided to reset ... and all is ok now .. I'm on the 214 build - but on checking the watch build I noticed the activation date ... so it failed exactly 3 years to the day and probably minute to when it was activated. this is clearly a software issues and as I got my versa 4 when it was released fingers crossed its been fixed in 214 or they are going to have many others failing. the support was useful but they couldn't get it going and the only default response after that was buy a new one. Pleased that ive got it working as I dont want to have to get the same model again and I dont want to goto a google watch as I have over 10 years of fitbit data ...

Try factory reset. Hold the button and you will see flashing screens and red cross, this is a factory reset mode. Follow the YouTube video step by step and you can get back to normal. I tried and it worked for my versa 4.

I was looking for answer because I faced the same thing for my versa 4 - flashing screens and red cross after factory reset. I found the solution and back here to help. Apparently, I learnt that this is a factory reset mode and I followed this YouTube video step by step and I managed to go back to normal : Get out of Factory Reset mode

I've given up, I've had to reset it multiple times now, it's just crashing
all the time. And it won't update the firmware to the latest . So trading
it in for a Google pixel 4, I feel that something in the hardware isn't
happy with the software as it's from the first batch that came out.

Thanks for sharing this! Hope Google Pixel 4 works for you! Though my Fitbit Versa 4 is working now and it has served me well for 21 months but I’m trading for an Apple Watch! 🙂
