Walk vs. Run Data Discrepancy

My run/walk route is about 4.1 miles.  I measured it.  But the data showing when I select the run vs the walk activity differs.  No GPS involved and I run/walk exactly the same pattern each time.

Walk distance shows as 3.6 miles.  Pace is 18’15”.

Run distance shows as 4.07 miles. Pace is 16’14”.

So the run activity setting yields a more accurate result it seems.

@Altoid4ever   Fitbit uses steps x stride length = distance when you don't use GPS.  Your default walking stride length is shorter than your default running stride length.  Your calculated distance will always be shorter when you use the walk shortcut.  Neither one will be accurate when you mix walking and running.

That explanation makes sense.   I’ve decided to use the Run setting when I go for my walk/run because it shows more accurate mileage than the Walk setting.

Thx
