@Penny.Co the green light is used to detect your heart rate and the red light is used to measure oxygen in your blood.

Hi @Penny.Co - in addition you can only normally see the lights flash when not wearing it and it detects some sort of presence and thinks you are wearing it.
If you place the watch face down with nothing (straps) in range of the sensors it should stop flashing. In this dormant state the battery will last longer when not wearing it.
