As I sit here typing this, my heart-rate is supposedly 187 BPM.
As of Wednesday afternoon, my versa thinks I am sprinting through my day. All of a sudden, no matter how tight or where I put the watch on my wrist, it reads an insane heart rate.
The app also stopped showing my heat rate on the heart rate section. The image below is from Thursday afternoon but only shows up until Tuesday. Everything is syncing fine with full reports everywhere.
Since Fitbit thinks I'm running like a mad man, my calories out is also completely out of whack!
I've restarted, factory reset, deleted the app on my phone and eventually had a support chat. I was told they are investigating a known bug and that it's not a hardware problem.
Does anyone else have this problem and know of an ETA for a fix?

@Fwilks You can try toggling the Heart Rate ON/OFF and back ON (in the Settings app on your tracker) with a reboot in-between, but honestly, if the factory reset did not resolve this issue, you may need to reach out to Customer Support.

Thanks for the placement tips Alejandra!
It's not about the placement however, because it changed one day drastically after weeks of use.
For sure the calorie count is being thrown off by the heartrate problem. It's unfortunate that the two metrics get messed up together, but also nice that when everything is going well, that they are calculated in tandem. It's a benefit and drawback of having a heart rate reading!
I have however tested it against my Surge on the same arm, and different arms to show the different readings.
I would expect that they are not exactly the same, but think that the difference means that there is a problem with the Versa!

I have had this issue now 1.5 weeks and it is getting ridiculous. I can't use my heard rate feature or it will tell me my heart rate is 100+ beats per minute too fast and that I am burning 4K more calories in a day than I am actually burning. I will not buy a fitness tracker unless it has a heart rate monitor. There is a known bug that fitbit isn't talking about unless you directly contact them and tell them you have tried a restart, factory reset, etc. They say it is software related and they are working on it. It has now been 2 months of them working on it with no news of a release date.

I’m so disappointed with my Versa. Never had this issue with my charge HR. Versa is only good for steps, climbs, and sleep. Pointless to track my exercise when my heart rate is registering as 200!

This isn't addressing the problem that users are reporting. This appears to be a hardware issue, not user error.

I took mine to best buy with my product replacement plan and exchanged it. So far the heart rate on the new one is working 🙂

Did you ever get a solution for this problem? I’ve had my versa for 8 mths now, and it’s just started doing what you described your versa was doing. Heart rate reading is way too high (currently 153 and I’m sitting and rested.) also the sleep hasn’t recorded properly for 4 days now. I have tried turning the watch off and on, a soft reset and a full factory reset.

It does sound like exactly what happened to my first watch. The only thing that worked (and I tried everything) was a replacement from Fitbit.
My replacement (knock on wood) has been performing perfectly since then. Best fitness tracker/watch combo since the Pebble. Even better!

Customer support is no longer addressing the issue. They simply say they are "working on the problem" NO eta in sight and they've known about it (and have been working on it) for months.
USELESS CUSTOMER SUPPORT ON THIS ONE! PICK ANOTHER WATCH

I had the same thing happen with my Versa today. After many months of normal HR monitoring today it runs 40 to 100 too high. A few weeks ago the stair/elevation monitoring started acting up. Seems like the hardware starts giving it up after a while.
Any more updates on a fix for this?
