Fitbit dev tools are moving to Google Accounts

Hey Fitbit developers,

Important update: To ensure you can continue to use dev.fitbit.com and keep your third-party apps for Fitbit devices running smoothly, you’ll need to transition your login to a Google Account.

If you don’t make the move, you’ll lose access to the developer site, and unfortunately, any third-party apps you’ve created will be deleted.

Please see our blog post for more detail: https://dev.fitbit.com/blog/2025-08-08-fitbit-dev-tools-moving-to-google-accounts/.

Thanks for being part of the Fitbit Developer Community!

Hello @GordonFitbit We use a business account for our developer account with Fitbit. But we can't migrate this account to a Google account in the Fitbit app because it is managed by Google Workspace. Is there a solution to this, or do we now have to start using a personal account for our business access to dev.fitbit.com? That's not what we want, it is against our business policy.

Unfortunately, you would need to create a @Gmail.com address to use.  Some people have designated their gmail account for business purposes (i.e. company-name@gmail.com).

Hi @GordonFitbit  - I followed the instructions you suggested and created a company gmail address to migrate our company’s Fitbit developer account. The migration itself was successful, however, shortly afterward the company gmail address was flagged, and I can no longer access either the email or the developer account.

I’ve reached out to Google support, but they haven’t been able to resolve the issue. I’d really appreciate your help, or a connection to the appropriate team, as this has become time-sensitive for us.

I'm trying to think what might have flagged the account.  Do you know if several people were trying to log into Google using the same account?

When you reported the issue to Google, were you given a ticket number?

Is there a special method to transfer the fitbit account for dev.fitbit, com to google health API?
Since I am not using the fitbit account for dev and did not setup with app, there is no way to transfer to google-fit account.
The guide looks like I need to create a new google console and create applications again.  Is this correct?

Hello @GordonFitbit , we have several apps registered with you. We are not ready to convert the currently existing non-Google admin account, but we would love to substitute/replace the admin for our apps. The replacement account will be a Google account. Who can help us with that? Do we understand correctly that we have to accomplish that before May 19?

Hi @martaen

You can contact our technical support team through the private support issue tracker link located on page https://dev.fitbit.com/build/reference/web-api/help/#private-support.  Please provide them with the client IDs, the last 10 characters of your client secret and the Google account.  We will be able to change the application owner for you.
