We are having difficulty using the Intraday data application form. At a minimum the eligibility criteria field is too short. Our studies typically have several inclusion criteria, and on my last attempt I used a very minimal set with the language as terse as I could make it. On submission I get the following error:
Insert failed. First exception on row 0; first error: STRING_TOO_LONG, Study Eligibility Criteria: data value too large: 1. ≥26 years of age 2. BMI ≥ 27 kg/m2* 3. < 150 minutes of MVPA/Week 4. ≥ 3 hours of recreational sedentary screen time (rSST) per day, that usually extends at least until 9:00pm 5. Typically consumes calories after 8:00pm. 6. At least 2 criteria for metabolic syndrome (max length=255): [Study_Eligibility_Criteria__c]
This might be workable with further word-smithing, but the bigger problem is that once this error has occurred the entire form content is lost. It generally takes about two hours to fill out the form, so trial and error doesn't work. Please let us know when this has been fixed. Acceptable fixes would include (in order of preference)
1. Much larger size limits on text fields, like 10K+ characters
2. Indication of max sizes for text fields.
3. Error recovery without loss of data (actually this should be a part of any solution).

Hi @Kevin_H
I'm sorry that you're having problems filling out the intraday request form. Just to confirm, are you having problems filling out the intraday request form or the research application (which your redirected to after pressing the submit button on the intraday request form)?

The second form, the research application. There are limits to various field sizes that are unadvertised and seem to be very small. One example is inclusion/exclusion criteria, which can run into the hundreds of words. It would be ideal to have open text fields have no limit, but barring that it's important to BOTH list the character limit AND have a current count visible.

Hi @Kevin_H
I will pass along your feedback to the team that owns the research application. If you are running out of space in the fields and you cannot reduce the text, then type up the information in a doc and upload it with your other supporting documentation. Just put in the field that the information is attached.

Just to update this thread, I received an update from Google support saying that they have addressed this by making the fields longer, although I haven't needed to do another application yet. If you found this post while looking for info about the research data application form please post a reply with your results.

@Gordon-C This is still not fixed, the inclusion criteria field is only 255 chars. It's a long and tedious form and very frustrating since any such lenght error results in trashing the current form. Sadistic design? I think y'all seriously underestimate how verbose scientists can be. 😉
Also, extending the length of the fields is a good first step, but maybe make your error handling non-destructive?

I have provided your feedback to the owners of the application in hopes they will make it more user friendly. In the meantime, I'm told you can use the field "Any Additional Comments" to include any information that doesn't fit in the other fields.
