Medical tracking apps

ANSWERED
Is there a way of developing a bespoke app that uses the Surge to collect manually input data (simple manual choices between several option codes) and to make this data available via sync to Windows phone or PC?
i.e. I want to create an 'app' that sits on the Surge and syncs the data back to the phone/PC.

At this time, Fitbit only has a Web API. There is no SDK for developing apps that run on the Surge device.

Thanks for this info. It is disappointing as the Microsoft band appears to
have a very strong SDK. I know that's their traditional strength (certainly
not cool hardware). Is there any chance that Fitbit will release an SDK for
the band itself - there are so many uses for this technology, including my
area of interest - medical tracking and analysis - that can only be
satisfied with an open architecture.

Nigel

We don't have anything to announce at this time.

Fitbit has an open architecture—it's just one of data access, not device access. Fitbit devices are highly optimized on every level to maximize the value of a specific user experience. This is great for most people, but unfortunately means that we're not the right product for every third-party use case.

I would like somewhere to log medications for my daughter. She is six and is sick I have to monitor everything from: how much exercise she gets, food, drink, medication, weather, how she feels(maybe happy faces), and physical aliments such as vomiting diarrhea ext. You almost have it all. I would love to use a Fitbit for her. I love mine! Then if there was a spot I could print it out and take it to the Dr. then I would really be in heaven. Thanks so much.

Hs there been any change to the response to this question: this could be a
sizeabl market and a bonus to the reputation of Fitbit.

capture.

Thanks,

@NigelMedical: Unfortunately, Surge does not have the ability to run third-party apps on the device itself.

Hi Nigel

A bit more information if it helps. Fitbit have provided us with tools to develop apps for Ionic, Versa, Versa light, Versa2, Versa 3, Sense. But not the Surge.

Your post is of interest to me because it aligns with a proposed open source, open data research project to collect movement data using smartwatches on Parkinsons Disease. As well as logging sensor data, we would need to log subjective assessment of symptoms. That's the connection with your project. Maybe of interest to you, https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/Parkinson-s-Package/idi-p/4861410
