Web API and Research Application

Hi everyone ,

for a third-party application developed for research purposes, is it allowed to use the Fitbit Web APIs under the standard developer terms, or is it necessary to define a specific research protocol or agreement with Fitbit?

Thanks.

Hi @SP2_researcher

Thank you for posting your question!

  • Please submit research application and your research study or clinical trial must follow the guidelines defined by the Fitbit Web API User Data and Health Research Policy.
  • For research studies, you should have either an Insitutional Review Board (IRB) approval or waiver; and a copy of their IRB approval letter or waiver which should be submitted with the research application. The approval letter/waiver and supporting documentation should state the study's start and end dates.

You may find more detailed information in our official documentation: https://dev.fitbit.com/build/reference/web-api/developer-guide/demo-accounts/
