I have a 1 year or so old Fitbit Zip. I used it last year to sync w Virgin Pulse using a small usb cable directly to my computer.  This year my hospital dropped V Pulse and is using Fitbit for downloads. A dongle is now needed, which I bought and it updated when prompted.  Trouble is- it still will not recognize my Zip;  Also tried it with my  iPhone -no luck.  Are the older Zip models that used a hard wire transfer not capable of syncing with a dongle?  thanks/

Last year, around July 23 2016, Fitbit pushed a complex update that broke syncing, and then broke the dongle recognizing the Fitbit. A bunch of people's zips quit syncing.

The solution was to unplug your dongle, completely uninstall Fitbit Connect from your computer, download the newest version and reinstall it, run the Fitbit Connect installer you just downloaded, and plug in your dongle (which should trigger a new driver install).

Next, you run Fitbit Connect to sync with your zip, and it should find your zip and upload your steps.
