Doesn't sync all my steps

My Fitbit has been notorious for not syncing all my steps when I travel and change time zones or switch from one device to another. I'd learned to just deal with that. Today I used the same device all day, and when I synced at 11pm, it went from 12,500 on my device to only syncing 9900. It showed it for a minute, then when the full sync was done it decided to take almost 3000 steps from me. I didn't change devices or time zones. What's going on with the software? I feel like the tracking used to be much more reliable. There's no point in having a tracker if it isn't anywhere near accurate. Please help.
