Fitbit steps keep reverting to earlier amount

When I checked my zip around noon today it was reading 0 for everything.  I opened it up and replaced the battery, then came online to log my steps manually as recorded by my phone.  I put in exactly 3000 steps.  The 3000 steps synced to the zip & my phone but it won't add any more -- when I take steps I see them accumulating on the zip for a few seconds, but as soon as it syncs it reverts to the 3000.  

I'm at a loss -- any suggestions?

Hey @Pheebers it's nice to see you around! This behaviour of your Zip sounds pretty weird similar when your Zip doesn't reset the data at midnight and remains for a few hours or resets itself before. But don't worry, let me suggest you to try something else besides a restart, please follow these instructions to set it up your Zip as a new device.
