Losing data when I change the battery

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi,

I did 12333 steps today, however my battery was low so it wouldn't sync. I changed the batter and it seens most of the data has been lost and it is saying I have only come 4567 step - is there a way of not having to lose the data when you change the battery?

Thanks,

Natalie

Thanks for stopping by @Nataliehf! Before changing your Zip's battery is recommended to sync it. Since as stated in the help site and the product manual, data could be lost if your Zip is not synced before replacing the battery.

However, if you remember the date and the amount of steps you took you can manually log your steps

I hope this helps, keep me posted! 😉

I lost over 9000 steps last night when my battery was low even before I put in a new battery. Don't know how to retrieve them. Also my battery runs out frequently.

There is no way to prevent it. It's incredibly frustrating and I came to
hate my Fitbit zip. Well, so much so that I eventually was forced to
switch to using my apple watch, which I hadn't planned on. My husband
still uses a Fitbit and after complaining to the company he was finally
given a new one with new instructions to use his computer to log steps.
You have no idea what they put us through with getting help and a new one,
though. It almost wasn't worth it. Talk about tearing your hair out!

One thing I learned is that using your phone to log steps does not work.
Fitbit has known about this for well over a year, but they're still selling
them with the same claims. It drains the battery and you end up changing
those every few days. When my husbands current Fitbit Zip dies I will
NEVER purchase another! We have to log steps for our employer to get
reduced health insurance, otherwise we wouldn't be doing it. I think our
peace of mind has been shattered by using these ridiculous gadgets, so any
benefit from taking more steps has been completely negated by having our
blood pressure rise on a daily basis!

My steps would disappear every time I went to download them, and then lo
and behold, I also suddenly had no battery. It happened every other day
and I truly wanted to run over the **ahem**ed thing.

My advice? Don't ever buy another Zip. They are faulty and will drive you
mad.

Thank you Sandy. I go thru so many batteries. It's ridiculous! This will be
the last zip for me. Maybe for Christmas Santa will bring me a better
tracker! Thx again and Happy Holidays!

Welcome to this thread @Rocky80 and @zeldakravitzSmiley Happy

Thanks for sharing your experience with Fitbit Zip. Sorry about your missing steps, I know how difficult is sometimes to get that amount of steps. Please in case that you haven't do so, check if the back of the battery is clean and if the battery door is not broken or loose; as it might be causing this issues.

Other tips:

  • Place the battery back into the tracker with the "+" side facing up, and close the door
  • Buy a 3V coin battery, CR2025
  • Try to sync your Fitibt before changing the battery since data could be lost if your tracker if is not synced. If the battery is loose, it might be causing that data lost that you've mentioned
  • Maybe you've already tried this, but why don't your open the back of your Zip and clean the place where you put the battery using a cotton swab. Make sure that the little metal piece that makes contact with the battery is not bend or rusty too.

If that's not working, we might have to check what is the next options with our support team.
