Question about step accuracy

I just bought zip 2 days ago. My job is on factory and all the time I was walking and standing. What I dont get is for example in the moring 3 hours after I wear the zip on my belt I have 3000 steps. I think this is very inaccurate. Its pretty imposible to have 3000 steps already. So how does fitbit detect steps actually? Does moving without walking also count? It really bugs me. And Im a bit worried that it is giving false information about the calories. I was also using MyFItnessPal so I track my calorie intake. Anyone?

There can be an issue with the wrist-worn trackers where excess steps can be tracked because the arms are moving at work even though you are not walking. I can't see why this would affect the Zip though.

All the fitbits, including the Zip, work by detecting movement of the tracker and then deciding whether that movement is the result of a step or not. It's not a perfect science and although results won't be 100% accurate they should at least be consistent allowing us to monitor trends in our activity.

Where are you clipping your Zip? Is it somewhere where it will be knocked or moved as you go about your work? Could it clipped anywhere less liable to cause movement?
