Tracker stops working when placed in clip

My tracker has been acting up.  Have "reset" it many times.  Issue seems to be that it works when it is OUT of the clip but as soon as I put it back IN the clip the display disappears and does not respond to taps.  I take it out, display comes back.

 

Anyone else?   All thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks.

PS:  when the display comes back on, I see: " 1 1 "
