Unable to sync to my Mac.

Tried everything to get my Zip to sync to my Mac (no, not an iphone or an ipad, this is my computer).  I followed the steps in their useless troubleshooting page including deleting the device.  NOW, I am sitting here trying to figure out how to re-add the device since the zip is no longer on the list of devices that you can add to sync.  I tried chatting with support and the **ahem** concluded that my device is defective, which is stupid since I can't even add the device to try syncing again.

Does any sane and rational person out there have any ideas on how I can re-install my zip to my devices?  Or, am I stuck throwing this stupid thing away and buying something from another company to replace it?  I have had it with fitbit and their expensive toys that don't work.

Update on this. Just to give you an idea of how useless support is at fitbit, I have asked them three times now to send me the link to reinstall the Zip. They keep sending me links for other models (aria, etc.) The software that they send does not have an option to reinstall the Zip. That model does not appear. They just keep sending me the same stupid links over and over. Apparently they don't speak English, or their little binder of pre-written responses does not have this solution. Not one of them seems to have a brain capable of independent thought. Does ANYONE have an answer on how to re-install a ZIP?

No help here, as I expected.  FitBit Support is useless and just keeps sending me the same stupid answer over and over again.

I just ordered 2 new Fitbit Zips from Amazon. But I can't pair them with my Mac because it's no longer on the list of devices. Therefore I'm returning them, even though I had to annihilate the packaging to get it out. I'm so disappointed because the Zip worked perfectly for me, was smaller than any other trackers I've found. So I'm on a hunt for something that works similarly, but not from Fitbit because I don't trust that they'll continue to support their products.

I spent weeks going back and forth with their support, and it was just the same three answers over and over. They finally demanded that I use my phone, which is not possible for a number of reasons. They have no right to demand anything, IMHO. Support is horrible and they should be able to just send you a link to setup a specific device. Instead, they just send you back to the same page to download the same software that does not list the Zip, over and over and over. Worst support I have experienced in a long time. Full of nothing but platitudes and incompetence.

Good luck in finding something to meet your needs! There are better products out there that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

I tired to pair them w my phone but it's the same problem. And if they can't  be paired, the stride, height, weight etc can't be entered. So the Zip is essentially worthless because it's just being used as an expensive pedometer.  Such a disappointment.

The app asks me to pick which device I'm setting up and fitbit zip isn't one of the choices. Anyone find a work around for this? I don't have a cell phone.

My problem also.

The easiest way I can think of is to borrow a phone. Once setup the Mac should sync fine.

A Fitbit doesn't get setup to a phone or computer, but gets setup to the users Fitbit account and this is why this step works

First question, if a user is have a sync issue and the Mac and Zip are not talking, why would someone remove the Zip from their account? How will this fix a not talking issue?

Rich,

You don't get it.  If you happen to upgrade your Mac, change the battery in your Zip, that is what they TELL YOU TO DO!  The first thing they tell you to do is to remove it and start over if it keeps failing to sync on an existing setup.  When you do this you are left without any devices, and you are now unable to add the Zip because it is simply not there on the list of devices. If you make the bad choice to buy a new Zip, well then you will never get it setup in the first place.

No, I am not going to borrow a phone.  That is an unreasonable request.  I should not NEED a phone to install this on my computer to sync it to my computer.  I want it to work as promised to my computer.  I am not interested in hacks and half-brained workaround guesses.

I don't get why someone would by an Apple or MS product, but that is me.

Maybe I don't get it, but simply telling Fitbit I don't want to use the Zip seems counter productive when they actually do want to use it.

@COAviatrix I'm not telling you what to do, I'm simply suggesting a way to get around the problem that was described. If you want to know what Fitbit support would suggest, please ask them.

Your response makes no sense at all.  I DO want to use the zip, but I have gone over this a hundred times with their support team and they just keep sending me and everyone else back to the same page to download the same software that does not list the Zip as a Fitbit device to install.  Now, your own prejudices about hardware and software are your problem, not mine.  I expect the software to work as advertised on the platform that they state that they support.  Fitbit support is clueless and their only solution was to demand that I install it on a phone, which is not possible because my phone belongs to my employer and I am not allowed to install anything on it that they do not approve.  So they are admitting that their software is garbag.  Go be a hardware and software snob somewhere else unless you have an actual solution, which you have admitted that you don't.

It doesn't sound like they admitted anything @COAviatrix you asked for help, I gave you one possible idea that could help fix this.

As for removing a non syncing tracker, a simple search would bring up hundreds of posts saying "I removed the tracker and can't set it up", that is probably why this step is listed as the very last thing that might be tried.

I guess you might be able to load a previous version of connect, if it was me, I'd simply borrow a phone from one of my many friends with fitbits.

Yes.  They admitted that it is not working, which is why they demanded I use my phone.  But, apparently telling you this over and over is just bouncing off of your wall of denial.  There are no other versions of anything available that I have found.  If you have this link to the old versions, why not post it instead of insulting people who are frustrated by the absolutely useless Fitbit support?  So?  Post it or shut up and go away.
