My advice would be to email each other. When you click find friends, it is the third option at the top. This way you will still get the friend request in the app but won't have to search for the person.
Hope this works, and if it does please thumbs up my post 🙂

Hello @Irishblues409,
I found that one of the easiest way to add a friend is through their profile page. So go to your dashboard and click on your picture on the top right. This will take you to your profile page.
Copy this URL and text it to your boyfriend, when he looks at it (provided he's logged in to Fitbit.com), he'll have an option to Add Friend (immediately under your picture). Just click on that.
After that you'll get the request and simply accept it.
This is also a good way to get friends on Fitbit without needing to hand out your e-mail address.
I hope this helps.
